8th Grade Non-par Intervention Opportunities

In an effort to encourage success and promote determination second semester, we will be providing three intervention opportunities for non-par students to demonstrate a commitment to academic and social achievement. All programs require a signed contract, including a parent commitment. The evidence of completing one of the available programs can be shared and considered during a culmination appeals process.

CAN
(complete assignments now) rooms:
Will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays afterschool (3:15-3:45) beginning March 22nd for 10 weeks.
Library: ELA, Freeman        Room 47: Math, Montano    Room 51: Science, Ferman

60 students will be selected from the non-par list on a first-come, first-serve basis, with 20 students enrolled in each of the three subject areas (ELA, Math, and Science)
Students will receive tutoring in current classroom curriculum as well as be provided opportunities to make up missing assignments (prioritized by teacher input)




Field Study: “Going Green” Business Proposal Project
5 Saturdays beginning March 27th.
Will be offered to non-pars not enrolled in CAN program.

Students will select a local business and prepare a “Going Green”, eco-friendly proposal in which they must apply the concepts and skills achieved in the 8th grade ELA and Math curriculums. Students will attend 5 working lab sessions (8-10 a.m.) where they will develop their proposals in addition to completing 5 fieldwork hours where they will gather supporting evidence for their business plans. (Shadowing and interviewing local business managers, competitors, etc.)
