We are proud to offer three tuition-free, Common Core Standards-based, high achieving, excellent options for middle school students:  Residential Program, School of Advanced Studies and the STeM Magnet.  All students living in our attendance area are guaranteed enrollment in the Residential Program and a limited number of permits are available for students who live beyond our attendance area.

The application period for the SAS program is March 1 - March 31. 
Late Applications will be accepted.
All applicants will be notified regarding their application status by April 21st.

STUDENTS WHO LIVE IN OUR ATTENDANCE AREA

Students whose home address is within our attendance area automatically qualify to enroll at Robert Frost Middle School.

STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY FOR THE SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES (SAS)

Students who meet one of the following criteria may qualify for a permit under our SAS Permit Application to attend Frost Middle School:

  1. Student identified as gifted/talented in LAUSD in the Intellectual, High Achievement, Creative Ability or Leadership Ability or Specific Academic (English, Math, Science or Social Science) Categories.
  2. Student scored in the “Standards Exceeded” range on Spring 2016 SBAC in both ELA and Math or student has TOTAL national scores of 85% or above on a District-approved standardized achievement test (e.g., OLSAT-8) in required areas (most recent year only).
  3. Student who meets ALL FOUR of the critical-thinking and problem-solving criteria:
a.  Explain meanings/relationships among facts, information or concepts that demonstrate depth and complexity.
b.  Formulate new ideas or solutions and elaborate on the information.
c.  Use alternative methods in approaching new or unfamiliar mathematical problems.
d.  Use extensive vocabulary easily and accurately to express creative ideas.
   AND demonstrates the ability (or strong potential) to perform TWO years above grade level in academic subjects. 
  Students verified with the critical thinking and problem solving skills criterion should have a portfolio to support verification (see application for more details).
 
  • The application must be completed and signed by the parent/guardian and the principal/designee of the current school of attendance, and submitted to Frost Middle School. 
  • Along with the signed application, please bring verification of eligibility and supportive documents. The current school of attendance has access to your student's records.
  • The application will be available to download and copies will be available in our SAS Office after March 1.
  • The application period for the SAS program is March 1 - March 31.

STUDENTS WHO LIVE OUTSIDE OF OUR ATTENDANCE AREA BUT WITHIN LAUSD BOUNDARIES

OPEN ENROLLMENT TRANSFER APPLICATIONS

  • The Open Enrollment Transfer Applications available Monday, May 1 - Friday, May 19.  
  • The application will be submitted electronically at https://apply.lausd.net/.  Parents will need an email address to submit the application online.
  • There are a limited number of Open Enrollment Seats available for the 2017-2018 school year.  If we receive more applicants than seats allow, a drawing will be held to determine acceptance.  The remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
  • Siblings of current Open Enrollment Students at Frost must submit an application. Siblings receive priority if there will be an older sibling continuing enrollment during the 2017-2018 school year.  Please make sure that both siblings' MiSiS records indicate the same home address.

CHILDCARE AND PARENT EMPLOYMENT PERMITS

  • Students who live outside of our attendance area, but within LAUSD boundaries may apply for CHILDCARE AND PARENT EMPLOYMENT PERMITS if they meet the qualifications.

STUDENTS WHO LIVE OUTSIDE OF LAUSD BOUNDARIES

INTER-DISTRICT PERMIT APPLICATIONS

  • Students who live outside of the LAUSD attendance area must apply for an INTER-DISTRICT PERMIT.
  • Detailed information is available here and a link to the on-line application is available here.          
  • The application period for the 2017-2018 school year runs from February 1 - April 30.

STUDENTS WHO APPLIED TO OUR STeM MAGNET

  • Students interested in enrolling in our STeM Magnet must apply through the District Choices Brochure.  
  • The District will mail enrollment acceptance letters for the 2017-2018 school year mid-March.
  • Parents will need to contact the Frost Magnet Office to confirm or decline enrollment by April 7, 2017.
